With her considerable knowledge of collection-building and the care and documentation of art works, Anne Kirker has successfully recommended many distinguished and varied acquisitions for the permanent collections at Queensland Art Gallery, Auckland Art Gallery and Te Papa Tongarewa/ National Museum of New Zealand.
She is a member of Museums Australia and she is an advisor on the visual arts sector for its quarterly journal.
She takes a keen interest in exhibitions and collection development of public and private organisations within metropolitan as well as regional contexts.

With her extensive experience in the management, care and acquisition of prints, drawings and photographs (and art works in other media) in Australia and New Zealand, Anne is equipped to advise both public and private collectors.
Anne is regarded highly for her comprehensive knowledge of art history and its transformation over the past decade. She has examined Doctorate, M.A. and V.A. (Hons) candidates in art history and theory as well as studio practitioners at the following:
University of Sydney, Queensland College of Art/Griffith University (where she is Adjunct Associate Professor), Queensland University of Technology, Southern Cross University, University of Tasmania Art School, University of Canterbury and Otago Polytechnic School of Art, and University of Auckland, Dunedin, New Zealand, among other tertiary institutions.
Anne Kirker is a pragmatist and an imaginative exhibition curator, able to deliver exhibitions of interest and significance to a broad audience. She is a “team player”, efficient and able to work within budget constraints.
Anne Kirker curates art exhibitions for public and private organisations and individuals and assists art collectors to build their collections. She also conducts workshops for the regional art museum sector on exhibition and collection development.
In total, she has curated over forty exhibitions and contributed essays to thirty-five others including Modern Britain, National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne 2007, Cross/Section: The documentary photography of Charles Page, Horsham Regional Gallery 2007, survey exhibitions on women artists including Di Ffrench (Dunedin Public Art Gallery, 2009) and Christine Webster (Christchurch Art Gallery 2010).
Anne Kirker is the author of two substantial books, New Zealand Women Artists: A Survey of 150 Years, Craftsman House, 1993, and British Painting 1800-1990 in Australian and New Zealand Public Collections (co-authored with Peter Tomory), The Beagle Press, 1997.
She wrote and co-ordinated entries for the Australian and New Zealand component of Dictionary of Women Artists, Fitzroy Dearborn, London, 1997 and later wrote for Grove Art Online, Oxford University Press, 2006.
Anne has written numerous essays and reviews for New Zealand and Australian journals, including Art New Zealand, Eyeline, Photofile, Art Monthly Australia, Art & Australia, Object, Craft Arts International, ART Asia Pacific, Artlink, Imprint, and Museums Australia Magazine.
